Public Transit Comparison

June 28, 2016

This visualization seeks to compare public transit data from the National Transit Database. This data set contains all transit authorities that are recipients of Urbanized Area Formula Grants from the Federal Transit Administration. The data shown here is the last reported full fiscal year for each authority. For the majority of the authorities, that is FY2013.

This type of visualization is known as a parallel coordinates plot. I think it does a great job showing at a glance how a transit authority compares to similar authorities across all dimensions.

You can select a range on any axis to highlight all paths in that range. In addition, you can click any axis title to adjust the minimum and maximum values.

This is a very rich data set, and I hope to explore it further with more visualizations soon.
